A simple vista, Jasper es un gato bastante llamativo. Incluso, algunas personas podrían sentir miedo al verlo frente a frente o a través de una de que la propietaria del felino publica en .

Este animal es un gato esfinge, raza de felinos cuya característica principal es el tener poco o nada de pelo. En el caso de Jasper, esta se une con la ausencia total de ojos.

HERPES FELINO

En una charla con , la dueña de la mascota contó que Jasper llegó a su vida como un regalo de Navidad en 2010. “Algunos amigos míos siempre supieron que quería un gato sin pelo”, señaló.

No obstante, este cariñoso presente se encontraba enfermo. La mujer, que solo se identificó como Kelli, sostuvo que su gato ocasionalmente tenía brotes del virus del herpes felino, el cual causa ojos llorosos.

It was so bad that removal was the only option. He went on being a happy, healthy, now one eyed kitty. Until September 2018 when he ended up with a corneal ulcer in his remaining eye. Again so bad that removal was the only option. As scary as the news was that Jasper would now be totally blind, he adapted super well. Finally in April 2019 he had a mild stroke. It was a terrifying experience trying to figure out what was going on, why he woke me up spinning in circles, but the diagnoses was a relief. The cause is unknown, which is unfortunately common, but it means it wasn’t caused by any of the awful things that we know can cause one. Since then he’s recovered almost 100%, he walks a bit more cautiously and occasionally is unsure of where is is and will meow for help, but otherwise he’s perfect. He’s a very happy kitty, who is otherwise extremely healthy. En el año 2013, la situación empeoró notablemente con la aparición de una úlcera corneal. “Lo llevé al veterinario de emergencia”, recordó.

En aras de acabar con el dolor, Kelli y los especialistas decidieron que lo mejor era extirpar el ojo afectado. Lamentablemente, el mismo cuadro se repitió en el ojo sano dos años más tarde.

Kelli mencionó que su compañero se adaptó rápidamente a su nueva condición. Los problemas, sin embargo, no terminaron ahí. En abril de 2019, Jasper tuvo un derrame cerebral.

“Al ser ciego, le fue más difícil recuperarse de eso. No tenía sus ojos para reorientarse hacia el mundo. Se mueve muy bien, pero a veces se confunde”, indicó Kelli. Por ese motivo, ella deja a Jasper en un corral cada vez que sale de casa.
